FISHING

Record-breaking grayling on the Wye, some of the finest brown trout fishing on the Usk and a sprinkling of well-stocked reservoirs and lakes make fishing one of the most popular outdoor activities in the area. Gludy Lake is only a short distance from the house and offers an unforgettable fly fishing experience.


HIKING

Explore the area by foot. Take a walk up the picturesque Pen Y Crug, which is located behind the house or wander leisurely into Brecon for something to eat. Further afield, in the Brecon Beacons, open ridges, peaceful towpaths and sun-dappled woods, all await to be discovered.


MOUNTAIN BIKING

Mountain biking reveals the unseen side of this incredible natural landscape. Cycle along stunning routes and trails that will offer the very best in outdoor adventure on two wheels. 


Rock CLIMBING

The Brecon Beacons offer exceptional climbing opportunities. The best outdoor spots are along the limestone belt on the southern side of the National Park. Or if you fancy indoor rock climbing, head to Llangorse Multi Activity Centre , which has real rock, artificial climbing walls, bouldering, indoor caving and a café so you can reach new heights in a safe environment.

Woodland Park in Brecon is a friendly and professionally run clay shooting ground offering first class tuition, plus a fully automatic practice layout, catering for shooters across all levels of ability.  


Horse riding 

The Brecon Beacons is the perfect place for horse lovers. With over 600 miles of bridle paths and tracks, enjoy the spectacular scenery and Welsh wildlife from horseback. This is some of the best riding you'll find in Europe.

The grassy fields and hilltops in the area around Gludy House serve as excellent take-off and landing sites for paragliders and hang gliders. Take to the skies and enjoy the breathtaking views beneath you.


Golf

If you like to play golf with a stunning backdrop of hills and mountains, this is an ideal base for your golfing break. Cradoc Golf Course is less than a mile away, has 18 holes, a friendly clubhouse, and the most scenic views from any course in Wales.


Canoeing & the Canal

For the thrill-seekers and water-lovers among you, canoe the rushing rapids of the Brecon Beacons or take it down a pace by boating along the canal. Peaceful and rural, with a flavour of times gone by, it’s often voted Britain’s prettiest canal.

The area is well-known for their many festivals that celebrate the best in food, drink, arts, music and entertainment. These include Greenman Festival, Hay Literary Festival, Brecon Jazz, Crickhowell Literary fest, Abergavenny Food Festival as well as many walking festivals.


STARGAZING

It’s one of the best places in the world to see stars. Make a hot flask of tea, wear warm clothing, turn off the lights and, on a clear night, you can see as far as the Milky Way from the gardens in front of the house.


Vintage train TRIP

Go on a journey with Brecon Mountain Railway into the Brecon Beacons National Park, through Pontsticill and along the full length of the Taf Fechan Reservoir before climbing to Torpantau high in the Brecon Beacons and the summit of the original line.


Food & drink

From gourmet restaurants with their own lush gardens to cosy pubs serving local Welsh lamb for Sunday lunch, there are plenty of fine eating places at the market towns, villages and rural areas surrounding Gludy House. Brecon itself, the closest town, has wonderful country pubs, local delis, tea rooms and cafés.
